SIMPLE TWIST OF FATE

The following contains excerpts from a government agency, known as The Ministry, who investigated my father’s case back in 1975. An innocent man in a living hell. That’s my father’s story but it won't be over until they clear his name and give him back the time he's done. Put in a prison cell, but he could’ve been the champion of the world. October 24th 1975. Jersey, “New Bar”, 01:16. Pistol shots fired,  NAME REDACTED  entered from the upper hall, sees bartender in a pool of blood. Cries out, "My God, he killed them all!” Three bodies... NAME REDACTED  taken to the infirmary, confirmed he could identify the guilty man. 04:36am. Suspect brought upstairs,  NAME REDACTED  says suspect is not culprit. However, agents believe sedatives and painkillers has diminished the perception of the witness. Suspect is arrested and charged. Suspect named as Brian Driver. October 25th 1975. Ministry Headquarters. Driver in custody. At interview stage, Agent Apollo asks suspect: ...

EVERY GRAIN OF SAND

Image
This is my favourite thing that Dad ever wrote. This was the speech he delivered at the Online Cyber Security Expo in 2007. I cry every time I read it. Every Grain Of Sand. Just think about it. Every Grain Of Sand. Each one has such an insignificant amount of weight and can be tossed around on beach endlessly, never knowing where it will end up, never knowing upon which beach it will finally fall. But the beauty in each grain is incomparable For far too long, our approach to information, data and the security of these have been in correlation to free flowing, uncaring and never ending movement of those grains of sand. But in each grain is beauty and if cherished, nurtured and secured, can become part of the treasure you call your life. The beach is the database and it is time we evolve our awareness, implementation and guidelines. We all need to adopt the mindset that security should not be optional or an afterthought. It has to be embedded into our culture. We must understand its inne...

How does a firewall see a city?

Colourfully, it turns out... London and the surrounding Home Counties.

HOME LIFE AND MUSIC

Dad was an obsessive, to put it politely. He was constantly focused on his work always with a bit of Bob Dylan on in the background, striving for perfection.  He was always trying to find a way to trip himself up on purpose, exposing a flaw in his system so he could immediately repair and put it right. It’s probably where I get my fiery and combative work ethic from too. I know the divorce to Patricia hit him really hard and he started becoming a bit more unstable. People say he became “raunchier”, I say he was Tangled Up In Blue.

MY FATHER'S PAST... A LEGACY OF SECURITY BOTS

Image
A little known fact, and it’s true… my father built the prototype of these online bots, which can now be found everywhere.  He enjoyed making these as they proved virtually unhackable unless you knew the passwords to access three levels of firewall.  To date, these have been deployed across the world and never yet been beaten. What a legacy for my father!  And he never got the credit for them. This one he was especially proud of:  https://www.escutcheoncorp.com/client-area/

SERVERS: TRUE OR FAKE?

Image
One of the big questions is how you identify a true server from a false one, especially when you might be setting up an elaborate network of 'dummy' servers in the event of an attack. Your security could be compromised at the planning stages, so fake blueprints might be used with subtle differences. This is called The Frobisher Code . Tiny differences between the plans for a genuine server, and those for a fake one. Fakes have slight breaks in the circuit flows, which the eye does not observe. No real server will Break the Flow, even if they Miss the Point. However, even though examples will be provided, say on a contract, it's very difficult to work out which server in your contract is the Right one. I have never broken this Code.

FAMILY LIFE IN FOCUS

Image
Dad was a big family man. He doted over me and mum constantly, and he would always go the extra mile.  I remember he used to bring me ice cream whenever I grazed my knee, or someone was mean to me at school. I also found this the other day.  Brings a tear to my eye every time I read it.
